A one-day seminar on “Women Empowerment and Inclusion in Decision Making” was conducted on September 23, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. by the Office of the Chief Proctor, Women University Mardan. The event was held under the kind guidance of the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Razia Sultana, whose encouragement and support remain pivotal in promoting academic and awareness initiatives across the University.
Although the Vice Chancellor was engaged in the Defence Day celebrations at the Main Campus, her vision and directives paved the way for the successful organization of this important seminar.
Distinguished Guest Speakers, Dr. Farha Khan, Head, Institute of Education & Research (IER), and Dr. Rani Begum, Head, Department of Urdu, addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of women’s empowerment, equal representation, and active participation in leadership and decision-making processes. They emphasized that women’s inclusion in decision making is vital for building a just, inclusive, and progressive society.
The seminar was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Rashida Parveen, Chief Proctor, Women University Mardan, who reaffirmed the University’s commitment to nurturing leadership, confidence, and resilience among female students.
Student Survey on Women Empowerment
Alongside the seminar, a survey was also conducted to gather students’ perspectives on women’s empowerment and their inclusion in decision-making. The survey covered areas such as awareness, perceptions, challenges, and recommendations for strengthening women’s roles in leadership.
Most participants agreed that women possess equal leadership potential as men and that excluding them weakens governance and peacebuilding efforts. Students also identified cultural norms, stereotypes, and institutional barriers as key challenges. Many suggested that universities should provide leadership training, mentorship opportunities, and greater representation for women in decision-making forums.
Conclusion
A large number of students and faculty members participated enthusiastically in the event. The program concluded with an interactive session, where students shared valuable ideas on strengthening women’s role in leadership at community, institutional, and national levels.
The participants expressed gratitude to the Worthy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Razia Sultana, for her unwavering support, and appreciated the Office of the Chief Proctor for successfully conducting a thought-provoking and inspiring seminar and survey.
